Real Weddings: This Jupiter Couple Was All About The Details For Their At-Home Ceremony

by Darla Parris Smallwood Feb 2017 Also on Digital Edition

Meredith Webb Young & Christopher Michael West

Wedding Date: Feb. 12, 2016

Where: A waterfront Jupiter home owned by Chris and one of his brothers.

What they do: Meredith is a jewelry designer, and Chris is a real estate investor.

How they met: Meredith and Chris met through mutual friends, but for two years, they were too nervous around each other to actually have a conversation, let alone go on a date. “When we finally began talking to each other, we hit it off instantly,” Meredith says.

On selecting their wedding venue: All of the couple’s choices, including the venue, revolved around making their special day “intimate, personal and focused on family,” Meredith says. After exploring other options, Meredith and Chris decided that an at-home wedding was the perfect way to achieve it all—beautifully.

“When we finally began talking to each other, we hit it off instantly.”

The details:

Air of Romance: Everything from Meredith’s lacy, “softly feminine, no-fluff” dress, to the garden roses, anemones, and ranunculus in tone-on-tone pinks, to the banquet table’s luxurious La Tavola fine table linens, came together to whisper “simply romantic.”

The Vows: Chris and Meredith wrote their own. “They were actually rather lengthy,” Meredith says. This was somewhat ironic, considering she and Chris were once so nervous they couldn’t say a word to one another. Chris’ 18-year-old daughter, Carolina, the only other member of their wedding party, stood alongside her father and Meredith. “Carolina is such an important part of everything,” Meredith says.

The Way to a Man’s Heart: Since Chris is from a big Italian family where food is a big deal, the banquet table played an important role in the wedding festivities. The bride and groom hosted a five-course wedding dinner for family, as well as an after-party for friends. All the food was prepared on site and served at that table atop the home’s pool, which was covered with clear Plexiglas and illuminated from beneath.

First Dance: Frank Sinatra’s “Something Stupid.” (Lyrics: “Say something stupid, like ‘I love you.’”) Followed by plenty of funk and blues, the couple’s favorite musical genres.

Celebrating Connections: In addition to the rings that Meredith designed for her and Chris, she made a necklace for Carolina. All three jewelry pieces incorporate rare shield-shaped diamonds to signify love that is special, powerful and enduring.

Speaking of Jewelry: After Chris and Meredith were pronounced husband and wife, Carolina leaned over and asked, “Do you think you might want to do the rings?” Oops. Cue some great photos of people laughing.
