National Wear Your Lilly Day Will Undoubtedly Be Huge In Palm Beach, And Shoppers Can Celebrate With A Free Gift
June 16, 2015 — Palm Beach County, get ready to see a whole lot of Lilly Pulitzer prints this weekend.
Sunday, June 21, marks the first day of summer, which means it’s National Wear Your Lilly Day. Stores nationwide will be celebrating the holiday by giving customers free gifts: Shoppers will receive a necklace with any purchase, and a notecard set with a purchase of $150 or more.
Now known for her colorful prints and impeccable style, Lilly Pulitzer first came to sunny Palm Beach after eloping with her husband. After starting a juice stand, she began wearing bright, printed dresses that helped hide the fruit stains on her clothes. Her dresses began gaining popularity, and when Jacqueline Kennedy was spotted wearing one her creations, the business took off.
Pulitzer died in 2013, but her legacy has lived on with bright collections that continue to hit stores every season.
The brand has made headlines in recent months with a hugely popular collaboration with Target that prompted long lines at stores and delays on the retailer’s website. On the flip side, it has also received negative publicity following alleged body-shaming drawings spotted in a New York Magazine profile on the Lilly Pulitzer offices in Pennsylvania.
Addressing the latter, a representative for the fashion house issued the following statement:
“These illustrations were the work of one individual and were posted in her personal work area. While we are an employer that does encourage people to decorate their own space, we are a female-dominated company and these images do not reflect our values. We apologize for any harm this may have caused.”
