FPL's Manatee Lagoon Is Offering Yoga Classes, Art Lessons And More This Summer

Giving locals new entertainment options for the little ones and adults alike, Riviera Beach's eco-discovery center is now hosting weekly events to teach others about everyone's favorite gentle giants.

FPL's Manatee Lagoon, which opened earlier this year, will be offering marine life painting classes, outdoor yoga sessions, manatee-themed storytime sessions and more this summer.

Get to know the sea creatures of the Lake Worth Lagoon at all of the events below:

Much Ado About Manatees

Guests can partake in a morning walking tour, which lets guests learn about sea cows from the inside out. The tour will include discussions on manatee anatomy, physiology and GPS tracking. Patrons can touch a manatee skeleton to learn about their high-bone density and molars while engaging in interactive, touch-screen displays.

Every Wednesday and Saturday, 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.; free

Lake Worth Lagoon: A Natural Treasure in our Backyard Educational

Following the walking tour, guests can join in on this educational talk about the Lake Worth Lagoon. Guests can listen in on a presentation discussing the lagoon’s environment and wildlife as well as its history.

Every Wednesday and Saturday, 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.; free

Mindful Moments at Manatee Lagoon

Unwind with a sunrise or sunset yoga class facing the Lake Worth Lagoon. Poses range from "soft" to more challenging during these hour-long classes.

Every Tuesday, 6:45 a.m. and Thursday, 5:45 p.m.; $5

Artful Learning at Manatee Lagoon

Channel your inner Guy Harvey by painting local marine life with art classes for both adults and children. Guests will paint a different species during each class offered throughout the twice-weekly series and will learn about the role these species play in the Lake Worth Lagoon ecosystem.

Every Friday, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. (adults) and Saturday, 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. (children); $30 (adults), $15 (children)

Manatee Tales

Bring the kids along for story time. This children’s story hour gives kids a sneak peek under the sea with ocean-themed stories. Through these tales, children will learn about the environment and the creatures that inhabit it.

Thursdays through July 28, 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.; free

Sunday Afternoon Lecture Series

Each week, an esteemed environmental expert will discuss a new topic, ranging from migratory patterns, to how manatees communicate, to the dangers of invasive species and more. Following the lecture, attendees will have the opportunity to ask the lecturing scientists any questions about the week’s topic and their ongoing work.

Sundays through July 31, 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.; free
