Going once, going twice, sold!

More than 150 of the Kennedy family's belongings from the "Winter White House" in Palm Beach were sold at auction Jan. 23, with sales totaling close to $500,000.

Hundreds of local and national participants were on-site for the auction in West Palm Beach Saturday, according to Leslie Hindman Auctioneers, the group responsible for the sale. Others participated by phone and online bidding platforms.

Much of the furniture, decor and other lots from the Palm Beach estate—which had served as the Kennedy family's warm weather retreat during John F. Kennedy's presidency—sold for well over the estimated prices, given their historic value.

For example, a pair of Venetian-style twin beds where the president once slept sold for $20,000. The estimated price was $3,000-$5,000. Similarly, a Coromandel screen reportedly owned by Sir Winston Churchill's daughter before she exchanged it for Rose Kennedy's fur coat sold for $16,250. Its pre-sale estimate was $2,000-$4,000.
