Palm Beach County Parks Named The Best In Florida By Our State's Recreation Agency
A Florida agency has pretty much confirmed Palm Beach County parks are the best in our state.
The Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation Department was recognized with Florida Recreation and Park Association's (FRPA) highest award at a recent state conference. This is the county's first time receiving this honor.
FRPA honored the local department with the 2016 Agency Excellence Award at the "Super" level—the only municipality to earn this title—in Orlando on Aug. 31.
Agency Excellence Awards recognize the state's most outstanding recreation agencies for their excellence in the areas of health, economic development, environmental sustainability and community development.
Palm Beach County earned the Super-level distinction for excelling in all four of these areas.
"While we offer so many valuable opportunities for relaxation and recreation, our mission is to make the quality of life for Palm Beach County residents and visitors better by providing diverse, safe and affordable recreation services, welcoming parks, and enriching social and cultural experiences," PBC Parks & Recreation spokesperson Bibi Baksh said.
Though FRPA seeks to issue this award to a deserving agency each year, there is not always a winner, as each applicant must prove it excels in the aforementioned four categories. There were multiple applicants for the 2016 award, according to Baksh, but Palm Beach County Parks and Rec stood out among the rest.
Palm Beach County also earned FRPA's Public Relations Award for a PSA promoting the county's parks as an ideal place to exercise and enjoy nature to improve mental well-being.
