The thought of going back to school might be a drag, but back-to-school shopping season sure isn't.

Get ready to buy school supplies and other essentials without paying taxes, and enjoy additional specials at Palm Beach County malls.

Florida’s annual tax-free week will take place Aug. 7 to Aug. 16. During this extended 10-day holiday, sales and local taxes won't be charged on the following items:

  • Clothing, footwear and accessories that cost $100 or less per item
  • School supplies that cost $15 or less per item
  • The first $750 on purchases of personal computers and computer accessories

Local shopping centers are also gearing up to host back-to-school events to kick off the academic season.

Boynton Beach Mall is hosting a Back To School Expo Aug. 8 to Aug. 9. As guests shop, they can enjoy various exhibitors, fashion shows, live entertainment and food sampling from Cajun Grill and Tijuana Flats.

Palm Beach Outlets will hold its Back To School Bash and Supply Drive Aug. 8. Shoppers and their children can participate in games, activities and freeze modeling. Those who donate new or used school supplies to Resource Depot will also receive a swag bag.

Select stores at The Gardens Mall are offering $10 back for every $150 spent from Aug. 7 to Aug. 9. Participating stores include Lilly Pulitzer, Ralph Lauren, Forever 21 and Aeropostale. See the full list of stores here.

The Gardens Mall will also host its second annual Shop and Share Aug. 15, in which 5 percent of all sales go to The Education Foundation of Palm Beach County.
