U.S. Open Polo Championship Will Kick Off April 3 At The International Polo Club Palm Beach
If you have yet to make it out to a polo match this season, now’s the time to reserve your tickets.
The U.S. Open Polo Championship will take place April 3 through April 24 at the International Polo Club Palm Beach in Wellington.
Eight teams—Audi, Coca-Cola, Dubai, Flexjet, Lucchese, Orchard Hill, Valiente and White Birch—will compete for the cup in the prestigious 26-goal tournament.
“As the oldest polo tournament in America, the U.S. Open dates back to 1904 and is widely considered to be the Holy Grail of polo,” IPC president John Wash said in a statement.
First held at Van Cortlandt Park in New York, the championship has been hosted at the International Polo Club Palm Beach since 2004.
"[I]t's the tournament that every polo player dreams of winning," an IPC representative said. "Only the very best polo players in the world can compete at the 26-goal level, so 'the Open' attracts exceptional players, and the competition is fierce on the field."
More than 12,000 people from over 30 countries and 50 states are expected to attend the Sunday matches. Attendees can expect live entertainment, as well as a Goodyear blimp and Thunderbirds flyover during the final match on April 24.
