The Power of Family, Travel and Community
This time of year has us thinking about relaxing, recharging and reconnecting with the ones who matter most. Season is over and many snowbirds have flown back up north, while the rest of us are dreaming about our upcoming summer vacations. Research shows that planning and anticipating your trip can be the happiest part of the entire process, even better than the trip itself. Follow the sage advice—“Once a year, go someplace you’ve never been before”—with our bucket list of 10 life-changing getaways, and we trust you’ll get more out of the actual vacation than the planning. And what do you do when not off jet-setting? You enjoy living in paradise! In this summer issue, out for the next three months, the best of both worlds collide as we bring you “The Best of The Palm Beaches” and “Travel That Will Change Your Life.”
The oft-used quote “We travel not to escape life, but for life not to escape us,” posted all over social media this time of year, is not just a cliché, it’s a cause, a yearning, a source. We travel to open up our minds, hearts and souls to exciting new experiences, cool cultures, breathtaking beauty, and to gain a richer perspective. Travel reminds us that we are just a mere speck of dust in this vast world and that our way is not the only way. Gustave Flaubert said it best—“Travel makes one modest. You see what a tiny place you occupy in the world.” This summer, go out and explore, and when your vacation is over, start planning your next one in order to keep the escapism high going!
Summertime provides the perfect opportunity to enjoy the laid-back vibe of South Florida with no wait times and less traffic. Our readers agree and have chimed in on their favorite things to do, places to eat, favorite boutiques, beaches, spas and views. Our guide to “The Best of The Palm Beaches” will fine-tune your downtime while you explore your own backyard. While taking advantage of all the Palm Beaches have to offer, post to social media with the following hashtags #BestOfThePalmBeacher, #BestOfJupiterMag and enter our “Best Of” contest online to win weekly prizes.
What do you get when you pair an overachiever astronaut with a courageous congresswoman? Not only a busy household, but a dynamic duo that, despite tremendous risks, trials and tragedy, perseveres and is the epitome of a “power couple.” I had the pleasure of meeting Capt. Mark Kelly at the WILA luncheon and was in awe of his achievements and his relationship with wife, Gabby Giffords. “She took a bullet to the head, but no dent to her spirit,” he said of his better half. Her message to the audience by way of a written note read, “Be bold, be courageous, be your best.” We’ve found nine local “power couples” who are better together, and what makes them powerful isn’t their titles, their careers, or their statuses, it’s their shared values and commitments to giving back to the community they love. They complement each other so that the whole is greater than the two halves, and where love, legacy and hope are the driving forces. They make each other, and the world, better. Enjoy your summer, and we’ll see you in late September!
